<image:title>Labour & Birth Care - Antenatal visits are family affairs and involve checking on the physical health and well-being of you and the baby, as well as your emotional health and well-being. T here is plenty of time to explore your birth preferences in depth, answer your questions and provide birth, infant feeding and newborn education and preparation. You also have access to my library of birth and breastfeeding books, as well as information booklets on birth choices, such as options for the third stage of labour and Vitamin K. In some cases we may even look at research studies together to ensure that I am providing you with the most up-to-date, evidence-based information possible. You can choose to either continue with your NHS antenatal appointments in addition to our visits, or you may prefer to opt out. Regardless of what you choose, you will still be able to access NHS care should it be needed. I can also arrange for scans and blood tests to be done either privately or through the NHS, and can refer and collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed should any additional input be needed, as well as accompany you to consultant visits or scans.</image:title>

<image:title>Labour & Birth Care - From 37 weeks in the pregnancy I will be ‘on-call’ for you, making myself available to you 24/7 and ready to come to you in labour whenever you call. This means that I stay close to home, carry my birth equipment with me wherever I go, and am prepared to provide midwifery care and continuous labour support from the start of active labour through the birth of your baby at home. After the birth I will stay with you for several hours (usually 4-6 hours) postnatally, ensuring that you and the baby are both doing well before leaving. If a transfer needs to occur from the home to hospital setting at any point, I will accompany you to the hospital and stay with you through the birth of your baby. However, due to hospital insurance policies, I am unable to provide clinical care in the hospital setting, so in this situation my role would consist of providing emotional support, answering questions and advocating for you.</image:title>

<image:title>Labour & Birth Care - The postnatal period is a very special and delicate time, when it’s important to cocoon a family in support so they can adjust to the many ups and downs of life with a new baby. As part of the Complete Midwifery Package, postnatal care begins in the period immediately after the birth, and then continues daily for the first 3 days, then on Postnatal Days 5, 7, 10, 14, 21 and 28, with the option to extend care through 5-6 weeks if desired (additional visits can also be provided during this time as needed). Postnatal visits last 1.5 hours and include checking in on your emotional and mental health and well-being, as well as a head-to-toe physical exam which will assess your breasts/chest, abdomen, uterus, bleeding, stitches and wound healing. A full physical exam will also be done on the baby, including assessing baby’s skin, umbilical cord, nappy output and weight gain. I also provide the Newborn Bloodspot Screening test on Day 5 if desired, and can arrange for the Newborn Physical Exam (NIPE) screening assessment to be done either at home or through the NHS in the first 72 hours after birth.</image:title>
